China Malware War Gets Personal

Zhou Hongyi has filed a 3.6 million yuan ($450,000) defamation suit against Yahoo China. Hongyi, the former president of Yahoo China, filed his suit in response to comments made in a recent Yahoo press conference accusing him of unethical business practices.

From the article: "A rift between Mr. Zhou and Yahoo China has been developing since before his departure from Yahoo last year, just prior to Alibaba's takeover of Yahoo's China operations. Mr. Zhou doled out generous bonuses to Yahoo employees in a ploy his detractors derided as a naked purchase of loyalties. Mr. Zhou defended the disbursements. 'Many of these people were longtime Yahoo employees, and they were under no obligation to follow me,' he said. 'It was my money to do with as I wanted.'"

Malware Become Rampant in China, VC is the Poison to Health IT Industry

In a large IT gathering, some plug-ins(Adware) developers openly displayed their new malware and called them as the "most standard" malware. Immediately many VC come to express great interest and eager to arrange a visit to the company.

The emergence of malware variants which can post advertisements on portals such as Sina.com

On August 31 after a large IT gathering some malware developers publicly demonstrated w2 popular malware variants to booster the meeting environment, Netease technology witnessed the above scene. The developers claimed since the release in less than three months, it began to making profits in large scale and now it has more than 800,000 active "customers." The first plug-in is known as "urgent message" , the malware can automatically downloaded and installed on the user's computer, it will add advertisement banner to IE Address column, the developers claimed that it is for the convenience of the many elder users, but I only found the advertisements about breasts enlarging and the name of advertising companies.

The second plug-in will display floating advertisement in various forms, for instance if you open Netease portal, the effect of advertisements from plug-in looks exactly as from real Netease, it is impossible for average users to tell the difference.

The development companies called this malware as standard one formal Plug-ins, not malware because they think this plug-in will not pop up new windows, neither a Trojan nor virus. When he was asked about how to download and uninstall issues, he recognized it is downloaded forcibly within bundled software and it is impossible to uninstall except using a specialized installed toll such as SuperRabbit. They made this design because of marketing and sales needs.

VC favor malware, the driving force behind rampant malware?

In this gathering there are VC investors and IT celebrities, when talking about malware, all of them without exception expressed their great interests. Right after the developers finished the demo several people have expressed their interest, and arranged the visits to further discussion , some people advised the software developers, now that you raped the users why not harden hidden, and ruthless, for example fully occupied IE address column. They are also told if you raped more than 20 million users you will be eligible for the bigger investment from VC, and there are many such precedents.

An IT general manager who had successful received VC admitted that, in his circle, there are at least two friends who just won risk investment. And in fact, in whole China VC investment to walware is far more than two cases.

Why VC favor malware? One reason could be obtained from the words of a senior VC, the concern of VC is not your technology, but your mission, your ability to win money. Thus, It is under stable that a small malware around 150K in less than three months can bring 800,000 users, who can resiste the temptation? After all, users are money. On the other hand, some malware is designeed for the VC. Malware can gather lot of online users in a short time, no need to concern users are reluctant and effective or not, numbers are gold rice bowl you can bring these numbers to cheat customers, and then VC will bring with customers to cheat the stock market. At last they win money and they will not care about users are happy or not, or any wildfires may occur, how many new plants will grow again.

Internet users will suffer to death sooner or later by malware

Borrow a sentence from Mr. Lu Xun to comment on malware: "Everything must be carefully examined before understand. Hooligans existed in old days, I can recall, but are not clear, so I consult to history book, the history is without year, and the words are written on each leaf--- 'Plug-ins'. I can not sleep at night, and carefully read again in the middle of the night, only to see two words in the whole book--- Hooligans. Let me put it in easier way: They come from different countries, for a common goal of the hooligans to come together, both developers and VCs in their minds the thing is very simple---for money. They do not consider the tens of millions of Internet users, after all users here are not to be concerned, there were so many, just rape them, a person more, a penny more. If Lu Xun can live to today he will surely be raped to death by those malware.

That plug-in variant developer said his product was only targeting those less professional users, who cannot tell but to use those plug-ins. But how many professional users exist in China among tens of millions of users, how many users know how to uninstall malware. The nature of plug-in is by its technology to trample on the users to and take advantage and profit, which is hooliganism. And because of those hooligans, how many users have to re-install systems, and be forced to see and click annoying advertisements in various forms.

Google Tests Blogger Upgrade

Google has started testing an enhanced version of its popular Blogger blog publishing service, adding long-awaited features such as the ability to categorize entries with labels, to control access to blogs, and to make layout changes by dragging and dropping.

For now, Google is limiting the number of Blogger members who can switch over to the new beta version of the service. When they are able to switch their blogs, members will see a link to the new version on their Blogger "dashboard," which is the service's management console. Those who want to try the new features out right away can create a new account at beta.blogger.com.

"You've been asking for ways to do more with your blog, and you can with this new release," reads a note posted Monday on the official Blogger blog announcing the new version.

New Elements

The new Blogger adds new page elements as well as font and color options, and it allows members of the free blogging service to customize their sites in a new drag-and-drop interface, reducing the need to make the layout changes by writing code. Meanwhile, a new setting lets users make their blogs private and specify who can view them. Google is also adding new templates to Blogger.

On the content syndication front, Blogger now provides a feed for all the comments posted on a blog, as well as individual feeds for comments made on specific entries. Support has also been added for the RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0 standards.

Google also enhanced the dashboard, which has an overhauled interface. Also, bloggers don't have to hit the "publishing" button to publish posts or replicate changes to existing posts. The service now detects when a post has been added or changed and publishes it automatically.

Blog.com Premium Service

As a premium user, you will have full access to all our services right from the start. All three premium levels give access to the whole feature set. Premium levels differ only in Photo album storage quota and monthly bandwidth allocated.

If you outgrow your free Blog.com account, we provide three levels of premium accounts: Basic, Plus and Pro. As your blogging needs grow, you will be able to choose the account level that best fits your needs.
